Course Overview
Introduction to Shame Competence is a focused 2-hour training webinar for professionals in trauma-informed and frontline settings, exploring how shame affects service delivery and professional practice.
Shame during encounters with professionals—such as healthcare workers, police, educators, and social workers—can lead to withdrawal, avoidance, inaccurate disclosure, and disengagement. Shame also affects professionals themselves and is linked to burnout, stress, and trauma.
This training helps individuals and organizations understand how shame is produced and experienced through interactions, policies, and practices, strengthening emotional intelligence and supporting better outcomes for both service users and professionals.
